Robert Slaughter, 78, of Queen City passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Irene (Figge) and Eugene Slaughter Jr., he was born March 2, 1938 in Queen City. He grew up in Queen City and attended the Queen City School, graduating with the class of 1956. He attended KSTC, now Truman graduating in 1959. He taught for one year at Sturgeon, Missouri and then for twenty-nine years at Queen City High School/Schuyler R-I where he taught Industrial Arts, drivers training and coached boys and girls basketball and softball. He coached several winning teams and was very proud of his players.
On December 27, 1973, he was united in marriage to Nola Klunder and to this marriage one daughter, Robin Leann was born.
He is survived by his wife, Nola; daughter, Robin; two granddaughters, Sienna Lovekamp and Aria Pearson; an aunt, Charlene Magiera and husband Leo of Pinehurst, NC; several grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Before and after retirement from teaching he enjoyed buying and selling cattle, working closely with Jim Swindler of Downing Stock Yards. He also worked several years as a crop adjuster.
In late summer of 2015 he was very honored to have several of his former ball player honor him at the Lancaster Country Club.
Robert was a member of the St. Johns Luther Church where he served on the Church Council. He was also a member of Queen City Lodge # 380 A.M. F.M., and M.S.T.A. He had also served on the Schuyler County Mutual Insurance Board, Schuyler County Health Department Board, Schuyler County Public Water Department Board, and the Queen City Cemetery Board.
He enjoyed Blue Grass music and International Tractors.
Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (March 25, 2016) at the St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Iammatteo Code officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Applegate, Jim Applegate, Paul “Harve” Applegate, Oren Slaughter Hawkins, Preston Slaughter Hawkins, and Quincy Slaughter Hawkins. Honorary bearers will be Donnie Crabtree, Russell Bushnell, Max Sparks, Don Hilliard, and Phil Calhoun.
Visitation will be Thursday (March 24, 2016) after 12:00 noon with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a masonic service at 6:00 p.m. in the
