Billy Wayne Hill, 73, of Pollock, MO, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on Monday, April 4, 2016. He had been a patient there for about two weeks.
Billy Wayne Hill was born at home on June 27, 1942, in the same bedroom in which his father had been born in the same house in rural Putnam County, MO. He was born to Donald Allen and Maxine (Butler) Hill, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO, in 1960. Billy entered the United States Army right out of High School and served as a nuclear weapons maintenance specialist. He was transferred to artillery as a result of an automobile accident in Athens, Greece and was honorably discharged in 1966. Billy entered Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, MO, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and law enforcement. He then went to work as a deputy sheriff for the Buchanan County Sheriff Department and served there for six years. Billy then gained employment as a case worker at the Moberly Area Correctional Center in Moberly, MO. He retired after 21 years of service.
Billy married Constance “Connie” Jean Bolinger on May 29, 1969, and Connie passed away on March 8, 2009. Billy and Connie moved to Kirksville, MO, after Billy’s retirement and lived there for a few years before moving back to St. Joseph in 2002. Billy moved back to the family farm in 2013. Billy was active with Connie in the Moberly Kennel Club and helped Connie breed and train Shetland Sheepdogs and Fox Terriers. Since Billy and Connie had no children, they considered these friends as family. Billy had a positive outlook on life and he had a good sense of humor. He was good at making people smile and he liked to visit. He was a good story teller, too. He and Connie liked to travel to places like Las Vegas and the Gulf Coast. Billy was an organ donor upon his death.
Billy is survived by his brother, Steven Hill, of the home, and by an aunt, Marjorie McNeese, of Unionville, MO. Several cousins and a host of friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time, but a visitation will take place at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, Unionville, MO, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Billy was cremated in accordance with his wishes.
Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
