Doris Avalee (Shoop) Anderson, 81, of Queen City, Missouri, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Cecil and Lois Shoop, Doris was born May 30, 1934, in Rural Kirksville. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Queen City High School. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1964; thereafter, she taught at area country schools, Gorin High School, and Greentop Elementary. She finished her teaching career in 1971 at Queen City High School, where she taught Home Economics. She enjoyed her students who affectionately called her “Ma Anderson.” Doris was dedicated to several organizations. She truly enjoyed being a member of Chapter G - P.E.O, Christian Church CWC, DAR, and Modern Mrs. Community Club. She was a beloved member of the Queen City Christian Church where she taught the adult Sunday School class for the last several years. Doris was a talented artist who loved to paint. She supported her children and grandchildren in their sporting events, enjoyed reading, and watching Cardinal baseball.

On October 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Paul Dean Anderson at New Hope United Methodist Church in Queen City, MO. They celebrated 61 years. To this union, three children were born.

Doris is survived by her husband, Paul, of Queen City; a son, David James (Laura) Anderson, Greentop, MO; a daughter, Lisa Sue (Douglas) Shepherd, Lancaster, MO; and son, Brian Neil (Michele) Anderson, Macon, MO; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Donna) Shoop, Moravia, IA; and sister, Janice (Gordon) Ayer, Emporia, KS; dear friends, Joy and Rex Kerby and Mary Louise DenBurger; and several brothers and sisters- in- law.

She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Finis and Chloe Anderson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 6-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home in Queen City, MO. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016, at 10 am at the funeral home.

Doris’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
