Delores Dae Scott

March 5, 1934 — April 6, 2016

Delores Scott, 82, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. She had been a resident there for about three months.

Delores Dae (Guffey) Scott was born in Centerville, IA, on March 5, 1934, the daughter of Edward Ross and Olive Marie (Coffrin) Guffey, who preceded her in death. Delores grew up in Unionville and attended schools there. She married James Kenneth Scott in Unionville on March 25, 1951, and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1990.

Delores attended the Ottumwa Beauty Academy soon after her marriage and, after briefly working for others, she opened her own Beauty shop in Unionville. She later added a flower shop to the business which became Delores’ Beauty and Flower Shop. During this time she also opened a flower shop in Lancaster, MO. After nearly twenty years at the Unionville location, Delores sold the business and she and Kenneth owned and operated Scott Cleaners, a dry cleaning business. Delores later opened a beauty shop in her home and maintained that business until retiring in 1993. She worked part-time for a couple of years as the “ice cream lady” at Putnam County R-1 Schools.

Delores faithfully attended all her sons’ sporting activities. She and Kenneth enjoyed dancing in their younger years and Delores liked to play cards with friends. She liked to socialize with friends and go out to eat, but her favorite activity was to cook special favorite foods for each grandchild when they came to visit. She had a playful and joking sense of humor and a bright and cheery smile. Delores was a long time member of the Unionville First Christian Church.

Delores is survived by a daughter, Linda (Russell) Crawford of Unionville, MO; and two sons, Jeffrey (Luan) Scott of Omaha, NE, and Chad Scott of Springfield, MO. Her grandchildren are Ryan (Christy) Crawford, Rustin (Hether) Crawford, Dominique Scott, and Alexis Scott. Delores’ great grandchildren are Randi and Riley Crawford and Kylee and Gavin Crawford. Also surviving are five O’Reilly nephews whom she loved dearly.

Other family members who preceded her in death include a sister, Carol Marie O’Reilly.

A Memorial Visitation for Deloris will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Lion’s Building in the Unionville City Park between the hours of 2:00 & 4:00pm. Her cremains will later be inurned privately by her family.

Memorials are suggested to the PC Café and Resource Center or the Unionville First Christian Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
