Bertha Belle Barlow, 84 of Kirksville passed away Friday (April 15, 2016) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Paul Frank and Laura Dorthea (Morey) Lutz, she was born January 6, 1932 in Ashland, NE. On January 3, 1953 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Grover Harold “Buck” Barlow.
Bertha is survived by her children, Julia Ann Owings and husband Floyd of Brashear, MO, Pamela McDonald and husband Robert of Novinger, MO, Laura Hines and special friend Charles Stone of Kansas City, MO, George Barlow and wife Debi of Kirksville, and Roberta Barlow of Kirksville; one brother, David Lutz of LaPlata, MO; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Ica Couchman of Portland, MO and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Oct. 22, 1996, three sisters, one brother, one granddaughter, one niece and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Bertha graduated from the St. Joseph School in Adkinson, NE in 1949. She received her teaching certificate from Kirksville Normal School. She was a teacher in country schools from 1951-1953. She graduated from Truman State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s in Nutrition. She worked in the Nutrition and health care field most of her life.
She was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church.
A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 19, 2016) at the Catholic Newman Center with Monsignor David Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Madison Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ryan McDonald, Paul McDonald, Eric McBee, Mike Moots, Philip Owings, and Davis Wayne Lutz.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
