Michael Cunningham
Michael Cunningham, 62 of Greentop, Missouri passed away Sunday (May 10, 2009) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The son of Kenneth L. and Anna Marie (Kelso) Cunningham, he was born September 5, 1946 in Kirksville, MO. He was raised in Novinger where he attended school and graduated from the Novinger High School in 1964. He attended Northeast Missouri State University for a short time before being drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 13, 1966 and served until Nov. 22, 1968, served 6 months in Vietnam. He returned and finished his degree at Northeast Missouri State University receiving a B.S. in Industrial Technology in 1973. On October 24, 1975 in Camdenton, MO he married Cathy Briggs. He was a supervisor at Hollister’s Inc. until 1976, he worked at Kirksville Waste Water Treatment Plant, Empire Gas and was the assistant manager for Elf Asphalt in Kirksville for 15 years. He then worked at Kirksville Farm & Home and Wal-Mart until he retired due to his health.
Michael was a member of V.F.W., N.R.A., and Kirksville Alumni Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and the outdoors. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family and adored his granddaughter.
Michael is survived by his mother, Marie Cunningham of Novinger; his wife, Cathy of Greentop; one son, Michael Cunningham Jr. and wife Andrea of Grandview, MO; one granddaughter, Abby Cunningham; one brother, Dennis Cunningham and wife Debbie of Kirksville; one sister, Joyce Sharp and husband Eldon of Hannibal, MO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Kenna Lynn Cunningham.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Father Chris Cordes officiating. Burial will be in the Novinger Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Mitchell, Eugene Grgurich, Dennis True, Tim Murphy, Brian Wilson and Lavern Blackorby.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
