Arlene Carter, 70, passed away at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO surrounded by family, on Friday, April 15, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer.
Beverly Arlene Carter was born in Centerville, IA, on December 6, 1945, the daughter of Harold and Bea (Campbell) Exline, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Larry and Dean Exline, and by granddaughter, Isabelle Dooley.
Arlene was reared in the Seymour, IA, area, attending country schools there. Arlene loved attending square dances with her father in her younger years, as he called the dances. She also loved horses and participated in barrel racing. She married Lewis Carter in Centerville, IA, on August 5, 1967, and he survives. Arlene and Lewis made their home on the farm in western Putnam County until moving to Lucerne. Arlene was very active on the farm, tending a garden, growing flowers and strawberries, and helping with the livestock. She liked to bottle feed calves and goats. Arlene also enjoyed being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She followed them to school activities and other events in their life. Her life was her kids and grandkids. Arlene had a servant heart for everyone she met and was a wonderful caregiver. She was an active member of West Liberty Baptist Church.
Arlene is survived by her six children: Kimberly Garr of Shakopee, MN, Johnny Carter and wife Wendy of Green City, MO; Jimmy Carter and wife Molly of Powersville, MO; Tammy Dooley and husband Cary of Lucerne, MO, Jason Carter of Lucerne, MO; and Jeremy Carter of Maryville, MO. Her grandchildren are Joshua Garr, Kyle Garr, Brett Garr, Nicholas Carter, Zachary Carter, Christopher Carter, July Dooley, Asher Dooley, Ezekiel Carter, Cruz Carter, and Willow Carter. She is also survived by a loving extended family, including her aunt Idalee McClurg of Centerville, IA and several nieces and nephews and cousins including Alvin Exline.
Funeral services for Arlene Carter will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 19, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be at the Sprigg Cemetery, Lucerne, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the family or to the American Cancer Society to assist with Pancreatic Cancer research and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
