Sandra Morton, 73 of Winfield, MO formerly of Queen City, MO passed away Friday (April 22, 2016) in St. Lukes Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.
The daughter of Leonard and Maude (Harris) Griggs, she was born in rural Unionville, MO, on July 13, 1942. She attended the Pickering Elementary School and graduated from the Unionville High School with the class of 1960.
Sandra was united in marriage to James Morton on July 16, 1960, at her parents home and to this marriage three children were born; Shelda, Kerry, and Stacy.
Sandra is survived by her husband, James of the home; son, Kerry Morton of Troy, MO; daughter, Stacy Cretton of Eldridge, MO; one grandson, Daman Morton; one son-in-law, Leo Hovar; two step grandchildren, Adriana Rice and Brian Hover; two sisters, Shirley Griggs Deierling and Sharyn Deierling and husband Allen; special friend, John Bakert; four step great grandchildren; a niece, Lorrie Lynne Mears and husband Edward; a great nephew, Isaiah Allen Meres; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shelda Hover; son-in-law, Bill Cretton; and aunts and uncles.
Sandra and James lived in rural Greentop for the first few years, moving to Queen City in the early 1970’s. She worked for the Haven of Rest Nursing Home in Greentop, Schuyler County Nursing Home, Harmons south IGA in Kirksville, Casey’s, Kerby Country Cooking, and R&R Market. She and James also had M&M Cleaning Service for a few years. Sandra retired in 2000. In the fall of 2003 they moved to Winfield, MO.
Sandra enjoyed writing poems and was a published author of several. Sandra liked to sing and play her guitar and also liked to write songs. She also enjoyed her Bible study which was very important to her, embroidery, and taking care of Daman.
She was a member of the Queen City Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 26, 2016) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daman Morton, John Bakert, Bob Morton, Gary Griggs, Kallie Johnson, and Allen Deierling.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the
Dooley Funeral Home
