William Clark Carter

William Clark Carter, 80, passed away peacefully at Twin Pines Nursing Home in Kirksville, MO on Sat., April 30, 2016, surrounded by love. Clark was born Aug. 30, 1935 in Lucerne, MO, to William Oscar and Estella Leora (Guyman) Carter.

Clark married his high school sweetheart, Arabelle Johnson, on August 28, 1954. They began married life on the family farm and soon moved to Fairfield, IA, where Clark attended Parsons College to play football. He then started working at Hy-Vee Food Store and after fourteen years, bought his own grocery store in Hedrick, IA, and later added a second store in Richland, IA.

In 1976, Clark and Arabelle sold the grocery stores and moved to Unionville, MO, where they opened Carter’s Family Shoe Store. They closed the shoe store in 1982. Clark became an insurance agent and continued serving the community in that capacity for 33 years.

Clark was baptized as a young man in Fairfield, IA, and served as a deacon in Fairfield, Hedrick, and Unionville. He belonged to several service organizations and was an active member in every community they lived.

In his spare time, Clark enjoyed refinishing furniture and guns, spending time with his family and visiting with friends. He always enjoyed playing football and later, watching his sons play.

Clark was a friendly man, enjoyed people, and made friends easily. He loved to joke and passed on his sarcastic wit to many of his children and grandchildren. Clark was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Arabelle, son Scott (Diane) Carter, daughters Diana Lowry, Cindy (Jack) Reasbeck, and Jennifer (Eric) Roman, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, his brother Lee Carter, sister June (Jay) Kilinginsmith, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Craig, two sisters Dorothy Maulsby and Amber Newell, brother Gerald, his parents, and infant brother Clarence.

Services will be held at Playle-Collins Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.

Memorials for Clark Carter are suggested to the DCI Dialysis Center, INC., and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
