Joanne Moritz

JoAnne Moritz, 91 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (May 1, 2016) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of Glen W. and Dixie M. (McReynolds) Novinger Sr., she was born December 28, 1924 in Kirksville, MO. On June 30, 1946 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Leonard L. Moritz.

JoAnne is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Moritz of Virginia Beach, VA and Glen Moritz and wife Sally West of Kirksville; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Denton, Martha Moritz, Rachel Moritz, Sarah Moritz, and Chris Moritz; four great grandchildren, Riley, Sonja, Louisa, and Henry; three brothers, Bill Novinger and wife Kay of Johns Creek, GA, Glen W. Novinger and wife Elaine of Kirksville, and Richard Novinger and wife Eli of Fenton, MO; one sister, Mary Jane Valuck and husband Richard of Kirksville, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandchild, Andrew Moritz.

JoAnne graduated from the Kirksville High School in 1943 and attended Northeast Missouri State University. She began her working career at Laughlin Hospital, where she enjoyed working with Dr. Earl Laughlin. She was a long time employee of Truman State University, where she worked for 39 years. She also did work for the professors at Truman as a proof reader.

She accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school classes for many years and participated in the Women’s missionary groups. It gave her great pleasure to read her Bible, memorize verses, and assist others in doing so. She enjoyed attending Truman Basketball and Football games and traveling to see her grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (May 7, 2016) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Marlin and Reverend Don Noble officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the
