John H. (Herb) Cook
John H. (Herb) Cook, of Kirksville and formerly of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died 05Monday (May 18, 2009) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
He was born on February 24, 1922, in Putnam County, Missouri, to parents Herbert Lee and Zelpha (Rosebery) Cook. He grew up in Unionville, Missouri and attended schools there. Herb met his wife, Ruth Evelyn Whaley, in Kansas, where they were married in 1949, then moved to Oklahoma. He retired from Transcon Trucking Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife (in 2003); a brother, Thomas G. Cook; and a sister, Clarice E. Wayman.
Herb is survived by one sister, Clem Spainhower of Centennial, CO, a brother, Darwin Cook of Sperry, OK, a sister-in-law, Virginia Cook of Cleveland, OK, one niece, six nephews, great nephews and cousins. Local survivors include nephews, Bill Wayman (wife Annell) and Donald Wayman, and cousins, Dean Rosebery and Cleone Stidmon.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday (May 22, 2009) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. Burial will be at the Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
