Kathryn Thomas

Mary Kathryn Thomas, 86 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (May 18, 2016) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

The daughter of Clarence and Loree (Clapper) Shaw, she was born May 9, 1930 in Kirksville. On December 19, 1948 in Greentop, MO she was united in marriage to Otis D. Thomas.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Kay Williams and husband John R. of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Darrell Williams and wife Tracy of Kirksville and Radonna Wells and husband Winston of Columbia, MO; step granddaughter, Julie McNew and husband Jared of Platte City, MO; six great grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Williams of San Diego, CA, Thomas Williams of Kirksville, Saige and Rayne Wells of Columbia, MO, Jennifer McNew of Kirksville and Jasmine McNew of Platte City, MO; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Ivory Williams; one sister, Theresa Hewitt of Willmathsville, MO; and three nieces, one nephew, three great nieces and six great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on July 30, 1995, one sister at birth and one brother-in-law, Jr. Hewitt.

Kathryn attended school in Greentop and Kirksville, graduating from Kirksville High School in 1948. She attended Kirksville State Teacher College. She worked at the Glove Factory and then Hollister’s Inc. until she retired in 1994.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Greentop and the First Church of God in Kirksville, the Eastern Star in Greentop and the Kirksville Garden Club. She enjoyed reading, birds, flowers, sewing and watching Cardinal Baseball.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (May 21, 2016) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Gragg officiating. Entombment will be at a later date in Maple Hills Mausoleum.
