Frances Ann Parcells, Norman of Kirksville passed away on May 18th, 2016.

The daughter of Forest George (Yock) Parcells and Anne L (Mudd) Parcells. She was born in Kirksville, March 8, 1931.

She is survived by sons, Richard Duane Norman, wife Diane, of Lee’s Summit, MO, David Harold Norman and friend, Linda See of Kirksville, and Phillip Drew Norman and wife Lisa of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Richard Forest Parcells and wife Jan, of Granbury, TX; grandchildren, Christopher David Norman and wife Jenny of Kirksville, Cindy Dawn Norman Garcia (Freddie) of Kansas City, MO, Michael Norman of Lee’s Summit, MO, Michelle Watson Cockran (Kurt) of Rathburn, IA; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Norman, Clayton Norman, Ian Folscroft, Sophie May Folscrof, Bentley Cockran; niece, Diane Parcells Nast of Florida; nephew, Steve Parcells and wife Kim of Texas; great nieces, Krista Kachak of Florida and Ashley Sears (Cody) of Texas and one great nephew, Trent Wilson of Florida. Her family was the love of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She grew up in Kirksville, graduated from the Kirksville Senior High in 1949, and received a B.S. degree in Speech Pathology, now Truman, in 1953 and her Master’s degree in 1964 and post graduate classes throughout her teaching career. She was involved in speech and language therapy in the Kirksville Public Schools for 33 years. Earlier teaching included one year in Cedar Rapids Public Schools, two years at the Catholic School in Boonville, Missouri and several spring quarters at the Northeast Missouri State University.

Fran had a wide span of interests. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge and with pride, maintained and enjoyed her 5 large flower beds with a wide variety of Day Lilies and roses. A few years back she did serious hiking, which included three treks to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, two to Yosemite and to the top of Half Dome, the Grand Tetons and a short part of the Appalachian Trail. The greatest joy was hiking with her grandson, Chris at age 12 to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Another important part of her life was doing for others. She represented her church with the Kirksville Inter-ministries Ministers for 20 years, the Food Bank, and Emergency Relief Board and volunteered for many years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Foster Children (CASA). She served on the Boards of the Northeast Missouri Senior Services and the Adair County Friends of the Library. Fran was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving on the Session 2 times and 3 times as a Deacon; over 65 year member of P.E.O. serving in every office and most committee chairs; AZ club Sojourner’s club and Retired Teachers.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (May 23, 2016) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Aline Russell and Chaplain Carrol Davenport officiating. Burial will be in the Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, MO.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the
