Ada passed peacefully of natural causes on May 16 at 4:05 p.m. at Northeast Regional Medical Center; Kirksville, MO. Ada was surrounded by the love of her family and entered her eternal life with her Lord and savior.
Ada Emily Parr Kins, age 88, was born in Mondovi, WI to the proud parents of Eunice G. Duncanson Parr and James Franklin Parr on November 11, 1920. Her three sisters, Doris Nyre (dec.), Francis “Fran” Thorson (dec.), and Iva Grass grew up in Waste Valley in Buffalo County. She graduated from Mondovi High School in 1938. Her twin sister Iva Olson survives her and resides in Montello, WI with her husband Charles.
Ada married Verle Willard Kins on June 7, 1939 at her home in Mondovi, WI. The flowers were bridal wreath and lilacs from her mother’s garden. They were parents, teachers, mentors, and friends to their four children: Gary Arthur (1941) with his wife Ruth from Danville, IL, David James (1945) with his wife Frankie from Pueblo, CO, Erle Vincent (1951) with his wife Darlene from Bayfield, CO, and Elsie Jean (1952) with her husband Ron from Kirksville, MO. Ada and Verle continued to provide guidance and role modeling of a loving relationship to their children and to provide the gift of play and laughter to their grandchildren Amy Dale and Joel Nelson, Emily and Bill Harkins, Eunice and Gordy Flick; Rhonda Marie and Steve Evans, James Arthur and Theresa Kins, Amy Stovall, Jana and Joe Greenwood; Kelsie Jenise, Eirik Vincent, and Jerren and Ashlee Oredson. They were blessed with great grandchildren Benjamin, Hannah, Elijah, Azalea, Hayley; Chelsea and Cory (dec.); Eddie and Ethan; Tyler and Katelyn, Ayden, Austen, and Aaren.
Ada will be sadly be missed by her nephews and nieces: Lois Wrede, Jim Nyre, Norma Engel, Susan (dec), Ruth Lee, and Sally; Carol (dec), Leigh Thorson, Shirley (dec), Robert Thorson, and Donna Castleberg; Judy (dec), Bill Grass, Mary Ellen, Mike Grass, Mark (dec); John Skovbroten; Gail Klavetter, Jack Kins, Jerry Kins, Nancy Robinson, Mary Butts, and Beth Fox.
Ada became an AVON representative in 1970. She received President’s Club Status and was the recipient of the AVON Albee award for 38 continuous years. She visited the shut-ins and widows, as well as members of the community with a smile on her face and a listening ear. She brought joy to all that knew her. Ada and Verle’s church affiliation was First United Methodist Church in Kirksville, MO.
Ada lived a full and meaningful life by the service and love that she shared daily. Over the course of 70 years, Verle and Ada lived in Mondovi, WI; Iron Mountain, MI; Ypsilanti, MI; South Bend, IN; Fairview Heights, IL; Worden, IL, and Kirksville, MO. In each of the moves that she and her family made, she established relationships within her church and community while maintaining connection with family through the remembrance of birthdays, anniversaries and important events by sending cards and AVON gifts. To know Ada, is to love her. Her smile warmed the soul.
The celebration of life service is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2009 in Lyster, Wisconsin. Visitation is at 10 a.m. at the Lyster Lutheran Church followed by the service at 11 a.m. by Rev. Joel Bacon, minister from the St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, WI will provide the service. After the service, there will be a lunch served by the Lyster Ladies in the community center.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a garden spot on the Rotary International Centennial Energy Trail in Kirksville, MO. Ada and Verle helped plant other sections of the garden and this will be a tribute to her family, to the Twin Pines Adult Care Center staff, to the residents of Twin Pines and St. Andrews, to Ada’s AVON customers, and to the many church and community members who had the opportunity to be touched by Ada’s love. A Garden Party in Celebration of Ada and Verle is scheduled for June 7 at 2 p.m. at the Energy Trail in Kirksville, MO.
