Lewis Max Carter

Lewis Carter, 71, of Lucerne, MO, passed away at the Levering Healthcare Center in Hannibal, MO, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.

Lewis Max Carter was born in Unionville, MO, on September 10, 1944, the son of Denver Max and Mary Nola (Duncan) Carter, who preceded him in death. He was reared in the western part of Putnam County and graduated from Unionville High School in 1962. After a semester in college, Lewis decided to return to his love of farming.

Lewis married Arlene Exline in Centerville, IA, on August 5, 1967, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2016. Lewis and Arlene made their home on the farm in western Putnam County until moving to Lucerne. Lewis was a hard worker who loved life on the farm and loved his family. He attended all the activities of his children and grandchildren. He liked to follow the Kansas City Chiefs football team and the Kansas City Royals baseball team. He was an avid collector of toy tractors and loved to spend time on the big ones, too. Lewis enjoyed good food with this family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great attitude about life. He was an active member of West Liberty Baptist Church.

Lewis is survived by his six children: Kimberly Garr of Shakopee, MN, Johnny Carter and wife Wendy of Green City, MO; Jimmy Carter and wife Molly of Powersville, MO; Tammy Dooley and husband Cary of Lucerne, MO, Jason Carter of Lucerne, MO; and Jeremy Carter of Maryville, MO. His grandchildren are Joshua Garr, Kyle Garr, Brett Garr, Nicholas Carter, Zachary Carter, Christopher Carter, July Dooley, Asher Dooley, Ezekiel Carter, Cruz Carter, and Willow Carter. Lewis is also survived by two brothers, Jack Carter and wife Monica of Newport, AR, and Jerry Carter and wife Deanna of Macon, MO, as well as two sisters, Cathy Ristau and husband Dick of Des Moines, IA, and Debbie Brown of Seabeck, WA. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a brother-in-law, Jesse Powell.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lewis was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Isabelle Dooley, and two sisters, Nola Ann Powell and Dr. Rose Mary Carter.

Funeral services for Lewis Carter will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sprigg Cemetery, Lucerne, MO.
