Rex F. Meneely 75 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (June 1, 2016) at Northeast Reginal Medical Center.
Rex was born September 3, 1940 in Madison, WI, the son of Rex R. and Maxine (Deem) Meneely. He was united in marriage to Janice Bolton on January 1, 1961 in Kirksville, MO.
Rex is survived by his wife and children, Tim Meneely and wife Valerie of Champaign, IL, Leslie Meneely of Kirksville, Chris Meneely and wife Candace of Council Bluffs, IA and Nathan Meneely and wife Cathy of Kirksville; brothers and sisters, Max Meneely and wife Yong of Kansas City, MO, Beverly Brown and husband Larry of Kansas City, MO, Pat Reeter and husband Larry of Chillicothe, MO, and Linda Lionberger and husband Richard of Savannah, MO; grandchildren, Anthony Meneely, Meagen Meneely, Caitlin Meneely, Alexia Meneely, Dakota Deacon, Tabitha Deacon, Courtney Balata, Elijah Ebert, Jimmy Huggett, Chris Huggett, Erin Huggett; great grandchildren, Brodie Rex Meneely, Ethan Meneely, Maria Eppich, Deleon Rice, Gia Meneely, Madison Jarriel, Emerson Meneely, Christopher Perkins, August Assanah and several nieces and nephews.
Rex was raised in Chillicothe where he received his education and graduated from the Chillicothe High School. He attended Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman University). He was employed by Western Publishing Company in Erie, PA. Later he moved to Kirksville and was employed at Grossett and Dunlap Publishing Company until his retirement. Rex had served on the Kirksville city council for 10 years. He had also served on the Missouri Municipal League for several years and was president from 2003 to 2004 and the Highway 63 Transportation Corporation. He was member of First United Methodist Church, Kirksville Lodge #105 A. F. & AM., Moila Temple, ElKadir Shrine Club, Optimist Club and the Kirksville Country Club.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday (June 4, 2016) at 1:00 P. M at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Northcutt officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Friday evening with a Masonic service to be held and 6:00 P.M. Friday evening under the direction of Kirksville Lodge # 105 A.F. & A.M. at
