Harold Webber, 89, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Moberly Nursing and Rehab Center in Moberly, MO, on Thursday, June 9, 2016.
Harold Edwin Webber was born in Putnam County, MO, on November 12, 1926, the son of Glen and Glendolya Webber, who preceded him in death. He was reared in Putnam County and attended rural schools there before graduating from Unionville High School in 1944. He joined the United States Army in 1945 and served in Germany in the army of occupation until 1947. Harold married Laura Evermon in Wayland, MO, on September 9, 1948, and she survives at home.
Harold and Laura began married life on a farm around Lemons, MO, in Putnam County. After a few years Harold began a long career as a mechanic with John Deere dealerships in Unionville and Princeton, MO. He opened his own mechanic shop in Unionville upon retirement from John Deere. He also owned and operated Webber Storage, a successful storage business in Unionville.
Harold was quite skilled in working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and metal working as well as building “hit and miss” engines that he displayed at steam engine shows. In addition to his family, his great passion was for aviation. Harold built is own airplane over a period of 15 years and flew it for decades after that. He bought and sold plane parts for many years and was a long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Harold was also member of the American Legion and the Frist Christian Church in Unionville, MO.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by a son, Kirk Webber and his wife Jo-Ann of Mechanicsburg, PA, and a daughter, Judy Mathis and her husband Mike, of Moberly, MO. His grandchildren are Lisa Cornwell and husband Brian, Lacy Johnson and husband Josh Okun, and Leeanne Krecic and husband Jeff. Harold’s great grandchildren are Hazel and Owen Okun. He is also survived by two brothers, Bud Webber and wife Darlene, and Edgar Webber and wife Doris, all of Unionville, MO, and two sisters, Nadean Davids and husband Oscar of Keokuk, IA, and Norma Dixon and husband Johnny of Unionville, MO.
Funeral services for Harold Webber will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Monday, June 13, 2016, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Frist Christian Church in Unionville and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
