Alice “Lucille” Smith
Lucille Smith of Kirksville formerly of Queen City passed away Tuesday night, May 26, 2009, at Kirksville Manor Care Center where she had been a resident for the past six years.
Alice “Lucille” (Minear) Smith was born December 26, 1911 in Putnam County near Livonia, MO. The daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Thompson) Minear. She attended Fowler grade school in Putnam county and high school in Livonia and Unionville, graduating with the class of 1931 from Unionville.
On February 28, 1936 at Kirksville, she was united in marriage to Glen Andrew Smith who preceded her in death on March 8, 1995. They lived on their farm north of Queen City until 1965, when they moved into their home in Queen City.
She was preceded in death by her father, June 1, 1952, her mother, August 22, 1969, brother, John Minear, April 7, 1978, brother, James Minear, April 12, 1992, sister, Ruth Grogan, March 22, 1994, and her eleven year old grandson, Scott Broseghini on May 26, 1983.
Lucille is survived by one son, Perley Glen Smith and wife Betty of Queen City; one daughter, Marilyn Broseghini and husband Frank of Kirksville; two grandsons, David Smith of Queen City and Daniel Smith and wife Chrissy of Perryville, MO; two granddaughters, Deanne (Smith) Winkler and husband Tim of Kirksville and Ellen (Broseghini) Rose and husband Frankie of Columbia, MO; five great grandchildren, Ashtyn and Matthew Winkler, Andrew, Macie and Grant Smith; one step-granddaughter, Bethany Kerkhover; one brother, Tom Minear and wife Audrey of Mansfield, OH; one sister-in-law, Valah Minear of Moline, IL and several nieces and nephews.
Lucille was a life long member of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and was always there for her family. She worked very hard to always make sure that there was good food on the table. She shared her chocolate chip cookies with many friends and family. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (May 29, 2009) at Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Dye officiating. Music will be provided by George Bradburn singing, “The Lily of the Valley”, “Under His Wings” and “Peace In The Valley” accompanied by Gwen Laudwig. Burial will be in Queen City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Smith, David Smith, Frankie Rose, Virgil Schmitter, Freddie Guy Minear and Tim Winkler.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (May 28, 2009) at the
Dooley Funeral Home
