Marilyn Otteline Shoultz

Otteline Shoultz, 90, of Unionville, MO, passed away peacefully at her home in Unionville on Friday, June 24, 2016.

Marilyn Otteline Shoultz was born in Allerton, IA, on October 4, 1925, the daughter of Otto and Eva (Showalter) Hilliard, who preceded her in death. “Ottie” was raised on a farm in southern Iowa. She married Ralph Shoultz, I on October 4, 1942, and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1995. Ottie was a farm wife and helper in all aspects. She became a RN later in life and loved caring for others in the hospitals and care centers she worked in. She also loved working with her peers. Ottie loved her family and was a great cook. She was a person of great energy and optimism who only retired at the age of 82. She loved gardening, crafts, quilting and embroidery.

Otteline is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Janssen of Mediapolis, IA, and Judy (Jack) Parsons of Newtown, MO. Her surviving grandchildren are Kathy (Mike) Schulte, David (Sandra) Janssen, Anthony Valentine, Jackie Joe (Brenda) Valentine, Robert (Kelly) Valentine, Sharon Pendergrass Shoultz, Michael (Jamie) Shoultz, and Kristina (Bobby) Morrow. Twenty-four great grandchildren survive and also one great-great grandchild, as well as a brother, Dale (Judy) Hilliard, of AR, a sister, Carolyn (David) Day of CA, and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Shoultz of San Diego, CA. Several nieces and nephews survive as well. The family would also like to express appreciation for Ottie’s caregivers in her last days, Georgia & Kim.

In addition to her husband and parents, Otteline was preceded in death by two sons, Ralph Shoultz, II, and Michael Shoultz; two great grandchildren, Lindsey Pendergrass and Rowdee Valentine, a brother, Bill Hilliard, two sisters, Nan and Janice, and a son-in-law, Bill Janssen.

Otteline’s wishes were to be cremated. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
