Wally Schutte
Wallace William Schutte, 78 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (May 31, 2009) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
He was born December 6, 1930 in rural area of Concordia, MO to Otto Frederich and Frieda Laura Magdelena (Woodrich) Schutte. On August 24, 1957 he married Ruth Fields at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO; they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2007.
Wally is survived by his wife; sons, Mark William Schutte of the home and John Charles Schutte and wife Janet of Apple Valley, MN; daughters, Sara Lynn Hartman and husband Phil of Jefferson City, MO and Susan Ruth Newman and husband Ken of Leawood, KS; grandchildren, Hanna, Laura and Joey Hartman, Matt and Madison Newman, Elizabeth and Tom Schutte; sister, Grace Brandt of Concordia, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph Otto Schutte, all of Concordia, MO.
Wally graduated from Concordia High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1959. From 1959-1961 he managed Farm Bureau in Fulton, MO. He served as a territorial manager for Sperry New Holland from December 1961 until his retirement in 1985.
He served as president in each congregation in which he belonged, as well as other positions, including elder. As a Commissioned Lay Minister for the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, Wally served at Peace Lutheran Church, Milan, MO, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Memphis, MO, and other congregations in Missouri and Iowa since 1963. He also served as a trustee for Faith Lutheran Church, Kirksville, MO for more than twenty years and was known for his meticulous care of the church lawn.
He was an avid racing fan and enjoyed traveling, playing Scrabble and solving crossword puzzles.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (June 5, 2009) at the Faith Lutheran Church, Kirksville, with Reverend David Lukefahr officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (June 4, 2009) at the
