Gene Pickett
Robert Eugene “Gene” Pickett, 75, of Kirksville passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The son of Virgil M. and Bernie Irene (Stidmon) Pickett, Gene was born May 14, 1934 in Stahl, MO. On December 9, 1956 in Paris, MO he was united in marriage to Judith C. Levings who preceded him in death on February 3, 2004. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Carrol Dee Pickett and Paul Pickett.
Gene is survived by two sons, Steven Pickett of Scottsdale, AZ and John Pickett and wife, Inga, of O’Fallon, MO; two daughters, Tamera Gregory of Novinger, MO and Trudy Gaines of Kirksville; ten grandchildren, Danielle and Graydon Gaines, Nathon, Nina, Lillie, Asa, Nadia and Heidi Pickett, Amber Lloyd and Ashley Klote; one great-grandchild, Ava Jo Sanderson; two sisters, Barbara “Bobby” Baxley of Kirksville and Willadene Brummit of Kirksville; two sisters-in-law, Donna Pickett of Kirksville and Mary Sue Hamilton of Columbia, MO and several nieces and nephews.
Gene began his education in the Lancaster, MO schools and transferred to the Kirksville public schools, graduating from the Kirksville High School with the Class of 1953. He entered the United States Army in August, 1953 and was honorably discharged in May, 1955. After the service he returned to Kirksville and was employed by Green Hills. In 1970 he began working at the Kirksville HyVee Store where he was employed until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he purchased the Road Runner Car Wash which he operated for several years. Gene loved fishing, hunting, camping, collecting coins and spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Musical selections will be “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Wind Beneath My Wings”. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, MO at a later date.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening, June 5, 2009, at the
