Dorothy F. Lewis, 84, of Kirksville passed away Friday, June 5, 2009 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.
She was born May 26, 1925 in Hurdland, Missouri, the daughter of John W. and Olive (Hall) Medsker. On July 3, 1944 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Harold Dean Lewis, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by one son, Allen Lewis and wife Melodie of LaPlata, MO; two daughters, Donna Spooner and husband Bob of Kirksville and Anna Miller and husband Mike of Vacaville, CA; one sister, Evelyn Young of Argyle, IA; six grandchildren, Brett Lewis and wife Jessica of Green City, MO, Tiffany Gallop and husband, Ken of Sparks, NV, Tony Spooner of Carson City, NV, Jana Greenstreet and husband Chris Chaplin of Roseville, CA, Andrea Greenstreet of Citrus Heights, CA, and Cary Greenstreet and husband Scott McCain of Truckee, CA; two special cousins, Donald Lewis and wife Jane and Glen Lewis and wife Leona both of Unadilla, NE; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was reared in Liberty, MO where she received her education, graduating from Liberty High School in 1943. After moving to Kirksville, she worked at the International Shoe Company for 43 years. Following her retirement she worked at Chariton Valley as an aide and Davis-Playle and Fohn Funeral Homes as a receptionist. She enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren, especially attending their horse shows. She was a member of Sugar Creek Church.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Special musical selections will be “In the Garden” and “Old Rugged Cross”. Burial was in Maples Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Williams, Jim Wadlin, Steve Peterson, Terry “Red” Callahan, Dick Hughes, and Jim Kelsey.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 at
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
