LuEtta I. Stewart, 83, of Kirksville passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The daughter of Charles and Edna May (Grindstaff) Bartmess, she was born April 19, 1926 in Sullivan County, MO. On January 12, 1946 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Richard Paul “Dick” Stewart who preceded her in death on January 29, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Vicki Ellen Carter; two grandchildren, April Lea Carter and Ellis Lee Carter, Jr.; four brothers, Clifford, Marion, Henry and Berl Stewart and two sisters, Thelma Baker and Ella Lorence.
LuEtta is survived by three sons, Ronald Paul Stewart and wife, Louise of Kirksville, Robert Stewart and wife, Donna of Novinger, MO and Larry Ray Stewart and wife, Kathryn of Kirksville; eight grandchildren, Rick Anderson, Ronda Durham, Ryan Paul Stewart, Ian Stewart, Gideon Stewart, Adam Stewart, Heith Stewart and Caleb Stewart; seven great-grandchildren, Tre Stewart, Riley Paul Stewart, Cody Stewart, Chloe Stewart, Taryn Stewart, Gracyn Stewart and Lyndyn Stewart; four sisters-in-law, Carol Alger and husband, Kenneth of Kirksville, Sarah Stitzer and husband, Andy of Kirksville, Norma McKim and husband, Larry of Brashear, MO and Colleen Schrage of Brashear, MO; two brothers-in-law, Sam Stewart of Kirksville and Teddy Stewart and wife, Glenda of Novinger, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
LuEtta was reared in Sullivan County, MO where she attended school, graduating from the Milan High School. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College (Truman State University). She taught at the Ross School in Pollock, MO. LuEtta was baptized at the age of 14 and was a devote Christian. She loved to read, especially the Bible, being in her garden and watching the birds. She truly loved her children and grandchildren. LuEtta was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church in Kirksville.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Musical selections will be “Peace In The Valley” and “Sheltered In The Arms Of Jesus”. Burial will be in the Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ryan Paul Stewart, Ian Stewart, Gideon Stewart, Adam Stewart, Heith Stewart and Caleb Stewart. Honorary bearers will be Rick Anderson, Tre Stewart, Riley Paul Stewart and Cody Stewart.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday evening, June 13, 2009, at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
