Gilbert Mullins 79, of Queen City passed away early Monday morning, July 25, 2016 in the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The son of William Winfield and Stella Marie Overton Mullins, he was born November 11, 1936, in Glenwood, Missouri. In 1955 he was united in marriage to Rose Sharon Martin and to this union eleven children were born.
Gilbert attended the Jimtown School through the eighth grade and graduated from the Queen City High School.
He was an over the road truck driver retiring in 1997.
Surviving are his children: Karen Kelsey and husband Rex of Downing, Mo., Sharron Gay and husband Joseph of Des Moines, Iowa, Steven Mullins of Des Moines, Iowa, Martin Mullins and wife Tammy of Des Moines, Iowa, Synthia Caperoze and husband Terri of Norfork, Virginia, Gilbert Mullins of Des Moines, Iowa, Mary Jane Mullins of Des Moines, Iowa, Bill Mullins of Des Moines, Iowa, Matthew Mullins and wife Charlene of Des Moines Iowa, Sarah Grissem and husband Jeremy of Des Moines, Iowa, and Amy Jones and husband Mike of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by special friend Vera Fox and her family: William Stone and wife Patti of Davenport, Iowa, Chuck Stone of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Pam Gordy of Fairfield, Iowa, Jean Lewis and husband Rob of Glenwood, Missouri, Debbie Shoemaker and husband Jerry of Greentop, Missouri, and Larry Stone and wife Piper of Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Glen Mullins and wife Marlene of Lancaster, Missouri ,sisters Lois Eason of Queen City, and Mary Clark and husband Robert of Washington state, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mac Mullins and Vera’s daughter Joyce Stone.
Gilbert enjoyed playing bingo.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Jimtown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Kelsey, Jesse Bartlett, Jeremy Mullins, Joshua Mullins, Jonathan Mullins, Matthew Mullins and Nichols Cave.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday July 30, 2016, in the
Dooley Funeral Home
