Robert May

Robert N. May, 85, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on January 8, 1931, the son of Thomas W. and Lulah K. (Sevits) May. His wife Sherry survives in their Kirksville home.

He is also survived by their children: Deborah Schreiber of Macon, Missouri; Denise Clark (Nathan) of Kirksville, Missouri; and David May (Paula) of Polk City, Iowa. Additionally, he is survived by 6 grandchildren: Erin Clark of San Jose, California; Ryan Clark (Jenny) of Kirksville, Missouri; Bethany Clark of Columbia, Missouri; Dustin Schreiber of Columbia, Missouri; Gretchen May and Matthew May of Polk City, Iowa. Two surviving great grandchildren include Abraham Clark and Benjamin Clark of Kirksville, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers (2 in infancy) and 2 sisters.

Robert served in the army during the Korean War. After the army, he worked as an illustrator for Boeing in Wichita until moving to Kirksville in 1968 where he served as Director of the Audio-Visual Department for KCOM until retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville where he served as head usher for many years. Additionally, he was a member of the Lions Club and the Optimist Club.

Robert’s gift was drawing and painting. He enjoyed his dog Bonnie, raising pigeons, working on cars, gunsmithing, and making people laugh. He enjoyed music, movies, and theatre. Above all else, he dearly loved his family.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 3:30 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating.
