Shannon Curtis

Shannon Curtis, 63 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (August 9, 2016) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

The daughter of James Edward and Jean LouElla (Saner) Brackney, she was born May 23, 1953 in Kirksville, MO. She grew up in Kirksville and graduated from the Kirksville High School in 1971. She began her nursing career in high school starting as a nurse’s aide. After receiving her LPN certification from the Kirksville Vo-tech LPN program in 1973 she continued the profession for 24 years at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital, Grim-Smith Hospital, and Northeast Regional Medical Center.

She enjoyed providing for others at the Helping Hands Mission, enjoyed gardening, helping people in need, cooking, and organizing her high school class reunions. She adored her children and grandchildren. She devoted her most recent years to caring for her father James and spending time with her closest friends.

Shannon is survived by her father, James Brackney of Kirksville; one son, Daniel Curtis and wife Tina of Springfield, MO; one daughter, Stephanie Bauer of Kirksville; five grandchildren, Shana Curtis, Ethan Curtis, Jamie Bauer, Gabe Bauer, and Kurta Bauer; one sister, Sharon Martorana and husband Bob of Hot Springs, AR; and one niece and one nephew, Bethany Marcol and Brian Martorana.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean; and one sister, Susan Brackney.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday (September 3, 2016) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
