Wanda Steele, 72, of Liberty, MO, passed away at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty on Monday, September 5, 2016.

Wanda (Montgomery) Steele was born in Centerville, IA, on October 5, 1944, the daughter of Jess and Nellie Mae (Morgan) Montgomery, who preceded her in death. She was reared near Hartford, MO, and attended the Halley rural school and Livonia High School. When Livonia High School closed she attended and graduated from Unionville High School. She moved to Kansas City soon after graduation and began a long career as a journeyman printer. She was a member of Graphic Communications International Union #235-M and retired after 28 years in the printing business. Wanda married Billy Ray Steele in Centerville, IA, on May 24, 1964 and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1995.

Wanda loved raising flowers; she had a deep knowledge of various species and kinds of flowers and often sold them at farmer’s markets and other venues. She enjoyed attending auctions and yard sales. She was active in her community and in different social clubs. Wanda had a strong, independent spirit and she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Wanda is survived by a son, Paul Steele, of Ballard, MO, and two daughters, Dianna (Victor) Meaney of Gladstone, MO, and Paula Scott of Liberty, MO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, as well as three sisters, Carol (Lawrence) Hammond of Norwalk, IA, Geneva (Danny) Cornelison of Unionville, MO, and her twin sister, Wilma Ross of Chillicothe, MO.

Others who preceded Wanda in death are a granddaughter, Torrrie Steele and a grandson, Jeremy Steele.

Graveside services for Wanda Steele will be at the Thompson Cemetery east of Unionville, MO, at 2:30 Sunday, September 11, 2016. Visitation will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville from 1:30 – 2:00 pm on the day of the service. Interment will be at the Thompson Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Thompson Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
