ALAN D. GOODWIN


Alan Dwight Goodwin, age 58 of Kirksville, MO died Sunday (June 28, 2009) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
Alan was born in Kirksville, Mo. on October 21, 1950 the son of Lawrence R. “Bud” Goodwin and Esther Lou (Young) Goodwin. He lived at home with his parents until eleven years after his father’s death. Alan at the age of 38 became a resident of Halliburton Hills Group Home #1 in Kirksville, MO. He lived there until his death. Alan was an outgoing friendly, person who never met a stranger. He loved going places with group home residents and personnel. He enjoyed music and was an enthusiastic audience participant at live performances. He was always ready to go “home”.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, Bert Goodwin and Valeria “Grace” (Evans) Goodwin and maternal grandparents, J. F . Young and Willa Avalee (Waddill) Phinney. He is survived by his mother of Lubbock, Texas; sister Judith (Goodwin) Harden of Lubbock, Texas; brother Roger M. Goodwin and wife Kathy of Athens, Georgia; six nephews, four nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The Goodwin and Harden family wish to extend their special thanks to the personnel of Hailliburton Hills Group Home #1 for the special care and patience given to Alan during his residence there. The family also wants to extend their thanks to the staff of the Northeast Regional Center. Alan was mentally challenged, but the love he showed to family and friends reflected a pure and innocent love devoid of any bias or discord.

Graveside were held at the Highland Park Cemetery at 2:00 P. M. Monday (June 29, 2009). Interment will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery.

Those who wish can express their sympathy in the form of a contribution to the Kirksville Food Bank or the American Cancer Society. Contribution can be left at the Funeral Home.
