Sterling G. Reindel of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016. The son of John C. and Lena Pearl (McElhinney) Reindel, Sterling was born May 5, 1927 on the family farm two and three quarter miles northeast of Queen City.
He is survived by one niece, Jan Rauscher of Phoenix, Arizona and one nephew, Roy Crewz of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sterling was a great uncle to three great nieces ( Lauren Rossman of Poughkeepsie, New York, Allison Rauscher of Phoenix, April Herzig of Prescott, Arizona), and one great-nephew: (Clayton Rauscher of Phoenix).
Preceding him in death were an infant sister, Zelda Lorene; an infant brother, John, Jr.; his father and mother, brother, Leonard C. Reindel, sister, Lena Marie Crewz ,and brother-in-law, Warren Crewz.
Sterling graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and then later obtained a M.A. degree in Educational Administration in 1956. In 1954 he started teaching at the Greenwood School in Kirksville, MO where he taught for 30 years.
Sterling’s love of travel took him to all fifty states, most of the Canadian Provinces, and Mexico. Besides attending six World Fairs, he relished Missouri and Iowa State Fairs and local county fairs.
Mr. Reindel became a Christian while a teenager and later taught in the children's Sunday School department for 20 years.
Mr. Reindel was chosen Teacher of the Year in 1984 and was listed in the 1994 Who's Who among America's Teachers after being nominated by a former student who stated "he was the teacher who made a difference in my life".
Visitation will be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 12th at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. After visitation Pastor Paul Milliken, a Hospice chaplain, will officiate at the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial at the Queen City Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
