Kenneth “Cotton” Jones
Kenneth Jones, 95, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Golden Age Manor in Centerville, IA, on Friday, July 17, 2009. He had been a resident there for only a short time.
Kenneth Jones was born October 31, 1913 in the Coatsville, MO, area, the son of Edward Antonio and Surah Eva (Cassady) Jones, who preceded him in death. He lived and farmed in the Omaha, MO, area as a young man and attended the Berry school. He married Wilma Lucille Campbell on May 4, 1940 and she preceded him in death on January 7, 1984.
Kenneth lived and farmed most of his married live in the area around Mendota, MO. He farmed until physically unable to do so and finally “retired” in his late 80’s. He liked to fox and coyote hunt and he raised hunting dogs. Kenneth liked to listen to talk radio shows and enjoyed his grandkids immensely. He was a member of the East Pleasant Church of Christ in Cincinnati, IA.
Kenneth is survived by sons Max Jones and wife Jean of Sioux City, IA; Hubert Jones and wife Roberta of Livonia, MO; and Kenneth “Dude” Jones of Unionville, MO; and by daughters Darlene Bowen and husband Jim of Centerville, IA, and Sharon Jones of Centerville, IA. Fourteen grandchildren, fifty-three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren also survive. A sister, Leta Allen, of Lucerne, MO, also survives.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl “Happy” Jones and Lester “Tut” Jones, and one sister, Verna Jones.
Funeral services for Kenneth Jones will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation on Monday, July 20, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Kenneth will be cremated at his request and interment of the cremains will take place at a later date.
Memorials for Kenneth Jones may be given to the Thompson Cemetery and entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
