George Leroy “Roy” Vice
George Leroy “Roy” Vice, 88 of Kirksville passed away Friday (July 24, 2009) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The son of Byron E. and Minnie (Truitt) Vice, he was born June 1, 1921 in Pure Air, MO. On June 1, 1946 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Bernice Hull who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William Vice of Kirksville and Terry Vice and wife Joyce of Kirksville; four daughters, Darlene Withrow and husband Ruben of Brashear, MO, Lila Carden of Creston, IA, Janet Young and husband Byron of Aledo, TX and Connie Clabaugh and husband John of Hastings, NE; one sister, Velma Darr of Kirksville; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence and one in infancy; two sisters in infancy; sister-in-law, Grace Vice; brother-in-law, Darrell Darr and son-in-law, Larry Carden.
Roy attended the West Elm Grove, Golden Rule and Salisbury schools. He worked as a farm hand before entering the U.S.Army. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 and served overseas during World War II. He worked for the International Shoe Factory and later worked for McGraw Edison until it closed. He then worked part time at the Brashear School until he retired.
He was a 61 year member of the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting berries & mushrooms, gardening sports and especial his family.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (July 27, 2009) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Price officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Knox County, MO.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday (July 26, 2009) at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home

The family suggests memorials to the Diabetes Association, Hospice of Northeast Missouri or the Church of the Nazarene and can be sent to the funeral home.
