Wanda Viviann Hazen Jones passed into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.
Wanda Viviann was born April 28, 1926 in Cherokee, Iowa to William John and Viviann Vergia (Smith) Specht, the middle child of three. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Marcus. She was raised on a farm near Marcus and enjoyed music instruction in piano, was organist for her church, and was a flutist in high school band. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1945. On May 9, 1948, Wanda married Vernon G. Hazen (who preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1986) at Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1958 they moved from Aurelia, Iowa to a farm near Greentop, MO in the Trinity Community. The children attended a one room country school. Wanda was involved in the PTA and was a 4-H leader. She taught Sunday School and VBS at Faith Lutheran Church in Kirksville where they were members. Hobbies she enjoyed were reading, sewing, embroidery and square dancing with Vernon.
She was a hard working and faithful wife and mother. In 1975 they moved to the Kirksville area. Wanda enjoyed her employment at Kirksville Savings and Loan for 26 years. She was active in BPW, Sperry OAO and LWML. Wanda enjoyed a trip to Germany with her mother. She married Edwin C. Jones on Jan. 29, 1989 (he preceded her in death on March 23, 1999). They enjoyed traveling and time with grandchildren.
Those left to celebrate her life are six children and a stepdaughter, Jerry Hazen and wife Phyllis of Carrollton, MO, Diane (Hazen) Young and husband Bob of Adel, IA, Peggy (Hazen) Hills and husband Carroll of rural Greentop, MO, Paul Hazen and wife Susan of Kirksville, Craig Hazen and wife Becky of rural Greentop, MO, William Hazen and wife Nancy of Kirksville, and Carolyn (Jones) Snyder and husband Merle of Green Castle, MO. Wanda is survived by 15 grandchildren, Angela (Hazen) Hermanson and husband Troy; Nicole (Hazen) Miller and husband Erick; Benjamin Young; Ashley (Young) Rohden and husband John; Stephanie Young; Austin Hills and wife Elizabeth; Vanessa Hills; Thomas, Liam, and Colin Hazen; Holly and Justin Hazen; Shannon, Bryce and Alec Hazen. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren, Tanner and Tucker Hermanson; Emily, Calley and Brady Miller; Scott and Ava Rohden; Hannah and Asher Hills; and Delaney Kugler; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by grandson, Phil Franklin Young (2002); brother, Chester Specht (2010); sister-in-law, Mildred (Crippen) Specht (2014); sister, Janet (Specht) Peck (1977).
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday (Nov. 14, 2016) at Faith Lutheran Church with Reverend David Lukefahr officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Madison Cemetery north of Kirksville.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the
