Carolyn Jean Dabney
Carolyn Jean (Moore) Dabney, 86, of Kirksville passed away Saturday,
November 19, 2016 at her home in Kirksville.
The daughter of Bennie and Pearl (Billlington) Moore, she was born on August 23, 1930 in Kirksville, Missouri. On November 26, 1948 she married Bobby (Bob) Dabney, also of Kirksville.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Linda Dabney of Kirksville, her son Greg and his wife Anna of Kirksville, five grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Leanna Pietzsch of Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, five brothers and one grandson.
Carolyn grew up in Kirksville where she attended school and graduated from Kirksville Senior High with the class of 1948. Carolyn and Bob strongly believed that Carolyn should remain at home to the greatest degree possible to raise their children. When necessary, and after her children were raised, she worked to help support her family, holding jobs at the Adair County Court House, Grimm Smith Hospital, Truman State University, K-Mart, and Holister, Inc., where she retired.
For many of her earlier years Carolyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Kirksville, and greatly enjoyed that fellowship and her religion.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who took an active interest to ensure her childrens’ educations; giving both children a significant head start, especially with arithmetic and reading. She deeply loved her mother and father and also had an abiding interest in her genealogy, expending great amount of time and energy to ensure her ancestors were not forgotten. When Carolyn wasn’t involved in family related matters she always enjoyed learning about local history and especially in taking drives in the country.
Carolyn will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.
Graveside service and interment for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 22, 2016, at the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
