Jean Payne, 92, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Sunday, November 20, 2016. She had been a resident there for about four years.
Jean E (Duffey) Payne was born on December 11, 1923, the daughter of Leland and Irma (Waite) Duffey. She married George Payne on June 15, 1941, and he preceded her in death on November 4, 1976. After living in Moline, IL, for a brief period, Jean and George moved back to Unionville where they spent most of their married life. In addition to being a homemaker, Jean and George owned and operated Payne Café. Jean also worked as a waitress at the Steer-In Café in Unionville.
Jean was a quiet and reserved person who liked to attend the Rathbun Music Show. She also enjoyed card and board games, especially playing Yahtzee with the grandchildren. She liked to sew clothing for the family. Jean attended the Baptist Church in Unionville.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by all three of her children: John Payne, Janice Jarman, and Georgann Baugh. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin, son of Georgann. Jean was preceded in by two brothers, Leland Duffey, Jr. and Arthur Duffey and a sister, Marjorie Harmon.
Jean is survived by three grandsons: Jeremy Jarman and wife Krysten, Jed Payne and wife Marranda, and TJ Payne and wife Jill, all of Unionville, MO. Five great grandchildren also survive: Kierra, Chevelle, and Skarlet Payne and Lucas and Lyndi Payne.
There will be private graveside services for Jean following cremation.
Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville is in charge of arrangements.
