William L. Womack

Bill Womack, 60, of Unionville, MO, passed away suddenly at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville on Monday, December 5, 2016.

William L. Womack was born in Unionville, MO, on October 9, 1956, the son of Ora and Mary (Gray) Womack, who preceded him in death. He was reared in Unionville and graduated from Putnam County R-1 High School in 1975. Bill married his high school sweetheart and two children were born to this union: Ryan and Sarah. They were later divorced.

Bill worked in the auto mechanic field for a few years before he served in the United State army for nine years. He returned to Unionville where he spent the rest of his working career in residential construction. Failing eyesight caused Bill to quit that work. Bill married Ruth Porterfield in Unionville, MO, on October 9, 2012, and she survives in Unionville.

Bill was a friendly fellow who kept to himself. He was a loyal friend to those who knew him well. He still kept in contact with his army buddies. Bill liked to hunt and fish in his younger years.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his son, Ryan William and wife Dana of Jefferson City, MO, and his daughter, Sarah Brown of the state of Texas. He is also survived by three step-children, Cassie Harlan and husband Matt of Unionville, MO; William Porterfield and wife Jenna of Omaha, NE, and Tye Swearingen of the state of Texas. Bill’s grandchildren are Kaleb and Zander Brown, Haley, Cameron, and Conner Womack, Jayson Swearingen, and Clinton, Lillian and Gabriel Porterfield. He is also survived by a brother, Orval Spence of Johnston, IA, a sister, Judy McDonald of Unionville, MO, and his mother-in-law, Edith Sells of Unionville, MO. Bill is also survived by two life-long, close friends, Kevin & Rhonda Harlan.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Gary Swearingen and two aunts, Enid Gray and Donna Dixon.

A memorial visitation for Bill Womack will be held at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Interment of the cremains will take place at the Unionville Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the family to assist with funeral expenses and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
