Donald Swisher

Donald Henry Swisher, 83 of Kirksville passed away Friday, December 23rd 2016 at his home in Kirksville.

He was born January 31, 1933 at Novinger, MO to Henry Ocie and Cleo Faye (Wallace) Swisher. He graduated from the Novinger High School in 1951. Soon after graduation he went to work for the railroad until he was drafted to serve two years in the United States Army. On September 24, 1954 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Lucille Jones. After his discharge he worked for the State Highway Department from January of 1956 until he retired in January of 1994.

Donald is survived by his wife, four children and grandchildren; David Swisher and wife Kim of Kirksville, Danny Swisher of Las Vegas, NV, Duane Swisher and wife Debbie of Galesburg, IL and Donita Swisher of Greentop, MO; Grandchildren, Damon and wife Paula and Case, Dayna and fiancée Rodney Snyder and Sydney, Jack and Sam Snyder, Darin and fiancée Jourdan High and Abel, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Faye Hills, and two brothers, Eugene and Kenneth Swisher.

After retirement he enjoyed spending the winters in South Texas for over 20 years.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (December 28, 2016) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Pitney officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be David Swisher, Danny Swisher, Duane Swisher, Damon Swisher, Darin Swisher, and Rodney Snyder. Honorary bearers will be Larry Lowe, Larry Snow, Raymond Buchanan, Monte Fisher, and Kevin Brawner.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the
