Dorothy Partin, 87, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Thursday, December 29, 2016.
Dorothy Louise (Whitworth) Partin was born in rural Putnam County, MO, on August 16, 1929, the daughter of Ora Dee and Olive (Shipley) Whitworth, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Unionville High School and married Layton Partin on November 9, 1947. Layton passed away in 2002.
Dorothy taught in a rural school for one year and then she and Layton owned and operated the Martinstown grocery store for a number of years. She also joined Layton with the farm work in the Jimtown area. They later owned and operated the Livonia grocery store for several years. Dorothy later owned “Dorothy’s Clothing Store” in Lancaster, MO. Dorothy and Layton spent a number of winters in Florida and eventually lived there year ‘round for a while. Dorothy worked at Toys ‘R Us, and Citrus World while living in Florida. They moved to Unionville in 2000. Dorothy retired briefly but missed being around people and so worked for Nelson Electric in Unionville before finally retiring in 2012.
Dorothy was very much a people person, easily gaining friends with her warm smile and caring spirit. She was a wonderful sales person and loved to be around people. She liked to play bridge with the town bridge club in Unionville and she attended the First Christian Church in Unionville.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Dean Partin and wife Sue of Columbia, MO, Joyce Graves and husband David of Knoxville, TN, and Debbie Fowler and husband Gary of Unionville, MO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Steven Newman, Leslie Patterson, Aaron Fowler, Kathy Graves, Jason Partin, Jeff Forrester, Christy Forrester, Lori McAllister, and Elisa Hawkins as well as 22 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Rex “Breezy” Whitworth and wife Alberta of Kirksville and sister-in-law Jean Whitworth of Joplin, MO.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Gurney “Smokey” Whitworth two grandsons, Sean Partin and Greg Newman, and a nephew, David Whitworth.
Memorial services for Dorothy Partin will be held at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. According to her wishes, Dorothy was cremated.
