Mildred (Millie) Mary Young, 95 of La Porte City, formerly of Cincinnati, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg,IA.
She was born April 21, 1921 in Buckingham, daughter of Alexander and Louise Yanda Thompson. She married Harry Young March 17, 1944 in Des Moines. He preceded her in death May 20, 2003.
Mildred graduated High School in Des Moines. After graduation she remained in the area and was employed in various companies and positions such as: Look Magazine, a Local Radio Station, was a Telephone Company Switchboard Operator, worked for a Real Estate Agency, and was an In-Home Nanny. After her husband's deployment overseas during WWII, she supported wartime efforts by working in a factory manufacturing artillery. She and her husband put each other through school; built, owned and operated Young's Barber & Beauty Shop in Des Moines for many years. The couple then purchased a farm in Cincinnati, IA., where they spent decades working the farm, caring for animals, remodeling, gardening and canning, enjoyed visiting, cooking & baking for family, friends and neighbors, but most of all, they cherished the 59 years they had together.
Survived by: a sister, Maxine Siemens of La Porte City; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: her parents, a sister Helen Stevens, four brothers, Edward, Marvin, Wayne, and infant brother William Thompson.
Private Family Services: were held at 11:00 am Friday, Jan. 20 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati. Payle-Collins Family Funeral Home, Unionville, Mo. were in charge of arrangements.

Millie will be remembered for her witty sense of humor, her loving, thoughtful, caring, kind and considerate ways. She had strong work ethics and outstanding organizational skills. She loved the outdoors and was a wonderful cook and baker; her homemade pies, cakes, cookies and cinnamon rolls were amazingly delicious. Above all, Millie had an exceptional love for God, dedicating her whole life to Him. She would boldly share the Gospel and her testimony to anyone at anytime. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her!
