David Butler

David Butler, 82, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Friday, January 27, 2017. David had been a resident there for five years.

Dwane David Butler was born January 12, 1935, the firstborn of Dwane and Marie (Norton) Butler in Unionville, MO. He graduated Unionville High School in 1953. David was baptized into Christ at the First Christian Church in 1954 and in 1955 he married his sweetheart Dorothy Lee Ratliff. Two sons were born to this union, Jeffery and Jimmy.

David worked construction all his life beginning with this father and uncle building houses and remodeling throughout Putnam County and surrounding areas. He called farming his hobby and always had horses. He felt every child should have the opportunity to ride so after teaching all his children and grandchildren he donated a horse to Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch. He retired in 1994 due to health reasons and began spending more and more time with family and friends often picnicking down on the creek. He was always the “go to” guy for all things carpentry and farming by his sons and grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife Dorothy of 60 years, sons Jeff and wife Joy of Stillwater, OK and Jim and wife Donna of Minden, NE. Grandsons Casey and wife Rande of Stillwater, OK; Caleb and wife Jayme of O’Fallon, MO; Kyle and wife Amanda of Stillwater, OK. Granddaughters Tiffinie and husband Dave of Minden, NE; Linda and husband Shayne of Bladen, NE and Katelyn and husband Dakota of Lucerne , MO. Great grandchildren Bailey, Cassandra, Olivia, Milla, Sofia, Ali, Jude, David Olivia, Landen and Milo. He is also survived by his sister Roberta and husband Bob of Kimberling City MO , brother-in-law Jim Hammond, a very special niece Jessica Collings of Kearney, MO whom he viewed as a daughter and sister-in-laws Marie Ratliff of Nashville, TN and Mari and husband Alton of Ashland City, TN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Dwane and Marie Butler; sister, Linda Hammond; father and mother in-law Charles and Faundria Ratliff; brother and sister in law Charles Andy and Helen Ratliff, and niece Angie Denney.

Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church on Tuesday, January 31. Visitation will begin at 10am with memorial services at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family requests financial gifts be given to Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch. These may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
