John "Jim" Robert Hicks

John “Jim” Hicks, 82, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Center in Unionville on Monday, February 6, 2017.

John Robert Hicks was born in Putnam County, MO, on September 13, 1934, the son of John Ed and Josie Blanche (Leach) Hicks, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sisters, Rosalee (Hicks) Wilcox of Powersville, MO, and Ruby Hicks, of Omaha, MO; and one brother, Richard Hicks and wife Jane of Unionville, MO. Jim is also survived by four nephews and three nieces, including Bonnie Schoonover, a niece to whom he was especially close. A former sister-in-law, Mary Knowles, also survives.

John was known to his family and many friends as “Jim.” He was a hard worker and liked perfection in everything he did. When he was a young man he did farm work for several area farmers including Dick Whitacre and Sam Hurliman. He also labored at Iowa Steel and Wire. The last place he worked was the Special Road District for the city of Unionville. He retired in 1996 to live out the remainder of his days on his acreage with his dogs. He lived at the Care Center about seven weeks. He will be dearly missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Loyd Wayne Hicks; three nephews, John Wayne Hicks, Terry Lee Wilcox, and David Edward Hicks; and one great nephew, Stormy Schoonover.

Funeral services for Jim Hicks will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 Thursday, February 9, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Mitchell Cemetery in Putnam County.
