Wilda Mae Cassady, 83, of Unionville, MO, passed away at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN, on Friday, August 21, 2009. She had been a patient there for about two weeks.
Wilda Mae (Lorence) Cassady was born December 28, 1925, in Unionville, MO, the daughter of Fred and Uma (Roof) Lorence, who preceded her in death. She attended Unionville schools and on December 20, 1941 she married Edwin Cassady in Kirksville, MO. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2006.
Wilda Mae and Edwin lived and farmed northwest of Unionville in the Union Church area of Putnam County. Wilda Mae was a good friend and neighbor who always helped when friends, family and neighbors where in need. She liked to garden, raising flowers and vegetables. She also worked in local elections as an election judge. Wilda Mae sold Avon products for 48 years. She and Edwin retired from farming in 1978 and moved to Unionville.
Wilda Mae was a feisty and spirited lady who had a pleasant and straight forward manner. She was a very social person who enjoyed gathering with a special group of ladies for lunch each Tuesday at the PC Café and Resource Center. Wilda Mae was a good cook who loved to fix big meals for her family. She was also a concerned citizen who took time and effort to donate blood on many occasions.
Wilda Mae is survived by one son, James Ralph Cassady and his wife Cheryl of Kansas City, MO and by a granddaughter whom she raised as a daughter, Sherry Roberts of Centerville, IA. Eight grandchildren and 10 great grand children also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilda Mae was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Leroy Cassady, and by one grandson, Gary Cassady, Jr.
Funeral services for Wilda Mae Cassady will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Union church Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Union Church Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO 63565.
