Dora Brown, 90, passed away Monday (March 6, 2017) at her rural Lancaster home.
The daughter of Lewis Sproul and Alice May (Downs) Poindexter she was born April 7, 1926 in WestPoint, Iowa. She grew up in the Lee County Iowa and Hancock, Illinois areas and attended the rural schools in those areas.
On November 21, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa she was united in marriage to Edwin Brown who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sons: Byron Brown, Steven Brown, Roger Brown, and Paul Brown, one brother, Clarence Poindexter, and one sister Helen Burns.
Dora is survived by six children Carroll (CJ) Brown and wife Nancy of Gladstone, Illinois, Kenneth Brown and wife Bonny of Dallas City Illinois, Sandra Perry and husband Joseph of La Harpe, Illinois, Brenda Brewer and husband Larry of Bloomfield, Iowa, Darlene Manes and husband Wesley of Gladstone, Illinois, and Kevin Brown and wife Lorraine of Arizona. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Sherry Brown of La Harpe, Illinois, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
After her marriage she and her husband lived and farmed in the rural Hancock, Illinois area for several years before moving to Missouri in 1977.
Dora worked a few years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa, but mostly worked alongside her husband, Lee farming, milking, and logging, as well as raising her family. She was always hard working and never felt old. She enjoyed helping Byron deliver rural papers.
She enjoyed music especially old time gospel music. And really enjoyed Sunday morning church music. She also enjoyed gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (March 10, 2017) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Brown, Kenneth Brown, Brian Manes, Cole Dewitt, Brett Dewitt, and Jon McVay. Honorary bearers will be CJ Brown and Wesley Manes.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday (March 10, 2017) in the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, MO.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
