Shirley Ann Clinkenbeard

August 16, 1938 — March 30, 2017

Shirley Ann (Haines) Clinkenbeard, 78, died at the Putnam County Care Center with her daughters at her side in Unionville, MO, on March 30, 2017.

Shirley was born in Putnam County, MO, on August 16, 1938 to Orin and Ruby (Ledford) Haines. She attended and graduated from Unionville High School in 1957. Shirley married Jimmy Clinkenbeard at the Mt. Hermon Evangelical United Brethren (Mt. Hermon United Methodist) Church in Chariton, MO, July 26, 1959. After a brief stay in California, they moved back home and eventually landed on the home place where they lived for 35 years.

Two daughters were born to Jim and Shirley: Theresa Hammett and husband Dr. Alten Ray, III, and Melissa Henderson and husband David, all of Unionville, MO.

Shirley and her family attended the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church until its closing in 2008. Then they moved their membership to the Unionville United Methodist Church where Shirley became very active singing in the choir, as a prayer team member, in the women’s group, serving community dinners, and tirelessly making prayer shawls. She loved her Lord and Savior, praising and serving him daily.

Shirley loved her home and family. Her prayers usually started with, "Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for my family." Her grandsons were her pride & joy: Christopher Allen Henderson and wife Elizabeth of Oskaloosa, IA, and Talon Dean Henderson of Smithville, MO.

Shirley worked for 15 years as the assistant dietician at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital. She always had a large garden to provide for her family. She sewed her way through more than one sewing machine, making clothes for the family. God and family were always first in Shirley’s life. She was the quite voice of reason in the family, always encouraging, always loving, always with a hug.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, (who passed on August 5, 2012), and her brother, John Haines. She is survived by her younger brother, Ray Haines and family of Columbia, MO.

Funeral services for Shirley will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2017, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Chariton, MO.
