Glenn Arthur Sandefur 88 of Greentop passed away Thursday (August 27, 2009) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Arthur and Martha (McCully) Sandefur, he was born March 13, 1921 in Milan, Missouri. On April 20, 1946 in Queen City, MO he was united in marriage to Leora Ruth Jeffries, who preceded him in death on March 31, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Jessica Capps on March 24, 1978 and Amanda Capps-Tarr in December of 1997 and three sisters, Ruth Royse, Mabel Gardner and Avalee Waddill.
Glenn is survived by his children, Jeff Sandefur and wife Jennifer of Greentop, MO and Tamara Tarr and husband Levi of Queen City, MO; three grandchildren, Alex Sandefur, Diane Rameriz and Sherry Kensy all of Greentop, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Glenn graduated from the Brashear High School. On August 31, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in the 82nd Airborne serving in France, Germany, Sicily, Maraco and the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion at Normandy; he was discharged on October 11, 1945. After the service he farmed for a short time and then worked for Travers Furniture Store in Kirksville. He moved to Colorado and worked for a dairy for four years. He returned to Kirksville and owned and operated Glenn’s Gulf until he sold the station and went to work for Burdman Auto Part until he retired.
He enjoyed landscaping, working on mechanical things, building bird houses, bird watching, crochet and playing cards. He loved being with his grandkids and great grandkids and passing on his knowledge to them.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2009) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend James Maxey officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, MO.
Pallbearers will be Randy Jeffries, Arthur Jeffries, Alexander Sandefur, Jesse Kensy, Jonathan Kensy and Albert Rameriz.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2009) at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
