Dona Cole passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Thursday, September 10, 2009, where she had been a resident for less than a year. She was 86 years of age.
Dona Mary (Anderson) Cole was born September 3, 1923 in Clemons, IA, the daughter of Ira and Disa-Lodita (Breece) Anderson, who preceded her in death. On October 14, 1940 she married Cecil Cole who preceded her in death on October 29, 1992.
Dona and Cecil lived and farmed in the Union, IA, area for most of their married life. Dona was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She liked to read (Harlequin romances) and do crafts, especially to crochet. She liked to take walks and to cook for her family. Sunday meals were special gatherings. She was an outgoing and energetic person who was direct and forthright with her thoughts and opinions. She was very sociable and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She moved to Unionville, MO, in 2008 to be near her granddaughter, Becky Carlson.
Dona is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Devries of Reinbeck, IA, ten grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dona was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Mabe and a son, Edward Cole, Jr. and by nine brothers and sisters.
Dona was cremated at her request and there will be no services. Her cremains will be interred in the cemetery at Clemons, IA.
