Robert Roof

Robert Roof, 80, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Monday, September 14, 2009. He had been a patient at Putnam County Memorial Hospital until earlier that day.
Robert Clinton Roof was born in Lemons, MO, on August 24, 1929, the son of Deward and Letha (Hackney) Roof, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Lemons High School and then went to Pella, IA, to work. He was inducted into the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. He was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service
On December 1, 1954 he married Mary Powell in Unionville, MO, and she survives at home. Robert and Mary lived and farmed in Putnam County. They lived northeast of Powersville for nearly forty years where they farmed and raised livestock. Robert retired in 2006 and he and Mary moved to Unionville. Robert liked to do woodworking and to read, especially western novels by Louis L’Amour. He also liked to watch the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Robert loved to farm; it was one of his greatest joys in life. But his greatest joy was being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by a son, Rodney Roof and wife Toni of Altoona, IA and by a daughter, June Gadberry and husband Doug, of Unionville, MO. Four grandchildren also survive: Shera Street, Bethanie Cook, Zachary Gadberry and Kyle Gadberry; as well as two great grandchildren, Aydan and Kaleb. Two brothers, Basil Roof and Leon Roof, both of Unionville, also survive as well as several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Others who preceded Robert in death include a daughter, Roberta Lynn Roof, who died in 1972, four brothers, Melvin, Clifford, Wayne, and Ronald Roof; and two sisters, Cleta Alexander and Phyllis Kelley.
