Leo F. Petree
Leo Francis Petree 84, of Kirksville passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Edgar Ray and Anice May (Lewis) Petree, Leo was born July 23, 1925 in the Knox County, MO community. On February 22, 1948 in Edina, MO he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Knaack who preceded him in death on January 5, 2006.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Oren Ray Petree in 1957, a brother in infancy and one nephew.
Leo is survived by three children, Janie (Petree) Sparks and husband, Preston, Ronnie Petree and wife, Carol and Janice (Petree) Trueblood all of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Todd Sparks and wife, Jamie of Kirksville, Tracy (Sparks) Russell and husband, Randy of Overland Park, KS, Ronald Bryan Petree of Kirksville and Jana Petree of Orlando, FL; two great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Tanner Sparks of Kirksville and several nieces and nephews.
Leo attended the LaPlata and Brashear schools. At an early age he worked on the family farm southwest of Brashear, MO. Leo enlisted and served proudly in the United States Army with the 749th Tank Battalion, during World War II. In 1958 he moved his family to Kirksville where he worked for Meadow Gold Dairy, Doc Haggard & Son Oil Company and he retired from the City of Kirksville.
Leo loved spending time with family and his grandchildren, sports and enjoyed working on and selling used cars. He had a great love for animals.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville. Reverend John Picker will officiate the service. Musical selection, “The Old Rugged Cross” sung by Dwight Buckingham. Burial with Military Rites will follow the service in the Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009. The family will not be present at the visitation.
