Cecil Dudley
Cecil Dudley, formerly of Altoona, IA, (formerly of Martinstown, MO) passed away at the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Center on Tuesday, September, 15, 2009. He was 86 years of age.
Cecil LaVerne “Barney” Dudley was born February 18, 1923 in Appanoose County, IA, the son of Pearl and Clara (Stevens) Dudley, who preceded him in death. He served in the US Army infantry in the Philippines during World War II and continued on active reserve for another six years after that. On May 25, 1946 he married Eva Scott in Salina, KS. She preceded him in death on March 16, 1981.
Cecil moved from southern Iowa to Des Moines in 1948 and drove a truck for Iowa Concrete Block. He also worked in the brick yard. Cecil retired in 1973 and moved to Martinstown, MO, where he and Eva ran the Martinstown Grocery store for about ten years. Cecil also tended Bar at Little Dubers in Unionville. He moved back to Des Moines in 1994 in order to be closer to family.
Cecil was a very social person who loved to be with people. He belonged to a bowling league in Des Moines for several years and was also a member of the VFW and the Shriners. He was an active golfer.
Cecil is survived by a son, Bryon Dudley and his wife Susan of Des Moines, IA; and by a daughter, Bonnie Adams and her husband William of Eagle Rock, MO. Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Others who preceded Cecil in death include four brothers and a sister.
Memorials for Cecil Dudley are suggested to the American heart Association and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
Graveside services for Cecil Dudley were held at the Rose Cemetery near Unionville on Friday, September 18, 2009 with a visitation at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home prior to the service.
