Lila M. Bowers 84, of Kirksville passed away Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
The daughter of Benjamin and Edith E. (McCuskey) Bergman, Lila was born February 4, 1925 in Queen City, MO. On August 11, 1946 in Queen City, MO she was united in marriage to Orville E. Bowers.
Lila is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Orville E. Bowers; three sons, Richard K. Bowers and wife, Linda of Jefferson City, MO, Ronald Bowers and wife, Joyce of Kirksville and Danny Bowers of Kirksville; six grandchildren, Amy Gaffney and husband, David, Stacy Pointer, Kelly Bowers, Eric Bowers and wife, Carissa, Ali Neal and husband, Bruce and Paul Mountain and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jeanette Bergman and one great-grandson, Jesse Neal.
Lila was reared on a farm near Queen City, MO and graduated from the Queen City High School. After graduation she taught for two years in the Schuyler County rural school. Lila was employed at the Drivers License Bureau in Kirksville. After her marriage she was a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of the Kirksville Church of the Nazarene for 61 years where she held various offices in the church. She was also a member of the College Dames and Senior Circle. Lila was well loved by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Mark Hager, Pastor Jeremy Broach and Reverend Bob Price officiating. Musical selections “What A Day That Will Be” and “It Is Well With My Soul” will be sung by Audra Jackson and accompanied by Jenita Davison. Burial will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Steve Green, Steve Johnson, Larry Baker, Sr., Eric Moots, Dick Taylor and Paul Mountain.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene.
