Avis Davis, 84, of Unionville, MO, passed away on September 18, 2009 at the Hospice Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA.
Avis Davis was born on February 10, 1925, the daughter of Mary (Duncan) and Raymond McKay in Unionville, MO. On November 27th, 1946 Avis married a handsome young gentleman by the name of Bill Davis and two daughters were born to this union.
Avis Davis was a member of the a member of the OAO club, the Sorosis Club, and the First Christian Church where she was especially fond of her ladies bible study on Tuesday mornings. Avis had the special knack for being a great homemaker. In addition to being a wonderful cook, she had an eye for a charming sense of decorating and loved to work with her flowers. Avis was especially concerned for people and was considered a wonderful friend by those who knew her witty personal side. Above all, Avis loved to dote over her family.
Avis is survived by her two daughters, Vicki Schwartzberg and husband Dr. Roger of Seminole, FL, and Debbie Zollo and husband Bob of Bellevue, WA. Her grandchildren are Jeremy Schwartzberg and wife Jennifer; Joshua Schwartzberg all of Tampa Bay, FL; and Andrea Zollo of Seattle, WA. Her great grandchild is Logan Schwartzberg. Avis is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Dean Berkenbosch and Laura Helmken.
In addition to her parents and husband Bill, Avis was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Paul McKay.
Funeral services for Avis were held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home and her visitation was held on Monday evening, September 21, between the hours of 6- 8:00pm. Bob Morrow, Rodney Randall, and Gene Weece conducted the service. The musical selections included “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” and “If You Could See Me Now.” Avis’ casket bearers were Jeremy Schwartzberg, Josh Schwartzberg, Chris Altizer, and Ron Stuckey.
Flowers will be greatly appreciated because they were so very special to Avis and a memorial has been suggested to the Hospice Bright Kavanagh House which may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
